This unique historic building is situated in the heart of the Grand Beguinage of Mechelen and is popularly known as 'the Paradise' or 'the Court Barn'; a rare and beautifully preserved remnant of the former Cellebroeders Monastery. The oldest core of the residential wing dates from before 1573, a date that is still visible on the fireplace vault in one of the rooms. Because the building served as a warehouse for centuries, it escaped the waves of modernization of past centuries, resulting in the 16th- and 17th-century interiors remaining remarkably intact.
